2014 Student Design Show Promotional Materials

This year’s Student Design Show promotional materials  were voted upon and selected by faculty and staff from close to fifteen submissions. Elkhorn Campus Student Nancy DuPont created the promotional look for the show. Nancy’s designs will be utilized on: postcards, posters, and other promotional materials for the 2014 show run.

Congratulations Nancy!

A BIT ABOUT the SDS…

Thanks so much for visiting our site and supporting our Students in the Graphic Communications Program District-wide.

The very first Student Design Show to exhibit the work of students from all three campus locations was held in Kenosha in the Madigano Theater Commons in 1999.

Its hard to believe that we are on our 16th year of the district-wide combined show, and our 18th year overall!  The show originally rotated among each of the three main campuses (Kenosha, Racine, and Elkhorn) annually.

We now rotate at locations between the two campus regions offering the Graphic Communications Program, and are excited to be holding the show at a brand new venue this year (the S.C. Johnson iMET center in Sturtevant).

Since 2007 we have maintained a show presence on the web (we have documentation of some of the more recent shows–2010 onward).

Gateway introduces the FAB-LAB

Gateway Graphic Comm students, along with iMET Center Engineering and Fabrication Students  (and all GTC students as well as the public at large) are using (and invited to find out more about using) the FAB LAB. Check out the video below.

GATEWAY GRAPHIC COMM DOES GAMES

Gateway Adjunct Instructor (and former KUSD student as well as GTC Alumn) Don Scherer has put together a series of graphic novels, web comics, animations, and games based upon his original artwork and ongoing character storyline. Don’s venture, RATATAT GRAPHICS, has  a website here, and some examples of game development shown in the YOUTUBE below.

Skyshark is an ongoing project that  students collaborate on in Don’s flash and basic gaming classes.

GATEWAY STUDENTS STUDY ABROAD: PARIS

A few folks have commented how pleasantly surprised they were to see the Paris Presentation in the Presentations category of student work. Several were unaware of our Parisian Study Abroad opportunity! Well, if you haven’t seen it, you really must as witnessed through the eyes of our students.

The sites, cultural attractions, food, and The Leo Burnett Agency on Berlin and Paris!

We are also looking for Students to go to Hessen Germany next year. Students need to be an acceptd Graphic Comm major, qualifying GPA and in 2nd or 3rd sem. Contact Denise Schneider. This is the opportunity of a lifetime!

OPENING NITE

The official reception for the 2012 SDS was held Tuesday Evening (Apr. 24). The event was well attended with a nice size spillover crowd into the Commons area! The delicious food (prepared by the Culinary Arts program) and Beautiful Floral arrangements (Floral Design Program) added to a wonderful and memorable evening.

Please remember that the show will continue to be exhibited until May 3rd (May 4th begins the takedown phase). This website will continue to provide information after the show is officially taken down, and will serve as a virtual gallery for  the pieces until the next show (SDS XV in 2013). We welcome all of our buisness and community partners to check in until then.

HAVE PHOTOS OF THE OPENING NITE FESTIVITIES? Wish to share them on the website? Send them to Peter Pham. Pending review for content, we may post it on this sight.
