Former GTC student ( and Parkside Alumni) Eric Houghton will soon be releasing his next book: “Happy Hogan’s Day.” As Eric recounts, the holiday was created and celebrated in his family around the legend of the “Hogan Elf,” who allegedly put the toys together incorrectly after breaking them at the north pole [and who may or may not have in actual fact been Eric and his brother] …and they somehow wound up in his younger sister’s holiday stocking every year on “Hogan’s Day.”
From Eric’s book:
Eric Houghton is an artist, writer, humorist and performer from Southeastern Wisconsin. He has created over 6000 painting, fifty murals, produced a dozen theatrical performances, and written one other children’s book.
He invented Hogan’s Day in the 1980s, when he and his brother wondered if they could create a holiday from scratch. Hogan’s Day has been proudly celebrated in the Houghton household for decades.
With many articulation agreements, Gateway Graphic Comm Students have more options than ever. Students can achieve their AA Degree and enter the world of work, or continue their education at a four-year institution (many of the agreements allow students to enter as junior-level students).
Some may additionally enter the world of work with an employer who may help them finance their BA/ BFA (some larger local employers offer partial tuition reimbursement).
Make an appointment with a Counselor at Gateway to explore the vast number of articulation agreements on the books. UW-Parkside, Carthage College, Mount Mary College, Columbia College, and Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design are a few of the schools who have agreements with Gateway Technical College.

Sōsh is a social media marketing firm representing a variety of companies, including Johnsonville Brats and Snapper Mowers. Social media is not a mere department within Sōsh, but rather their forte and “raison-d´être.” Students learned about this emergent media, its unique requirements of designers, and its potential for dynamism and power.
Hanson Dodge Creative is one of the premiere active lifestyle creative agencies in the world. With a strong digital presence, Hanson Dodge explained to students the importance of branding to the commercial creative process on every level.
In between, students stopped for a quick lunch at the popular third-ward Milwaukee Public Market.
Several people have admired the “senior banners” that we display during each design show. Some have inquired who we have contracted for the banners, and for the last few years it has been SASS GRAPHIX in Salem, Wisconsin.
SASS also happens to be run by former GTC graphic communications student Paula Sass.
Gateway Graphic Comm students, along with iMET Center Engineering and Fabrication Students (and all GTC students as well as the public at large) are using (and invited to find out more about using) the FAB LAB. Check out the video below.
Some former Gateway Students from the Burlington Area, along with a few current students from Racine and Kenosha have Design Work on display at the Racine Arts Council Gallery. Stop by and take a look through Early June.
